Angela Guido

Founder of MBA Protocol · MBA admissions coach since 2008

Angela Guido is the founder of MBA Protocol, a boutique MBA admissions coaching firm, and has coached MBA applicants full time since 2008. She has a Chicago Booth MBA, was a consultant and then a recruiter at the Boston Consulting Group, and wrote Interview Hero, the interview book that was a #1 bestseller in multiple categories the month it launched.

How she got here

Angela majored in philosophy at Yale, then spent two years teaching English in South Korea, first in a preschool and then at a college. She was a hiring manager at KPMG before business school.

After her MBA at Chicago Booth she joined BCG as a consultant, then moved into recruiting there, as the first dedicated employee of Women@BCG. She taught the GMAT for Manhattan Prep for seven years, and she’s on the cover of its GMAT Word Problems guide.

She has coached MBA applicants full time since 2008, worked as an mbaMission consultant until 2018, and has worked with hundreds of clients personally. She also founded Happy at Work, a leadership development brand.

The method she built

Angela studied screenwriting for years and calls herself a failed screenwriter. What she learned from Hollywood story structure became the foundation of the method MBA Protocol’s coaches use: helping clients find and tell their own story, instead of telling them what schools want to hear.

The method consists of multiple proprietary frameworks and tools that make greater self-awareness and stronger communication skills easier to develop. You Discovery™ is self-awareness work that comes before any essay. Career Gameplan™ is the post-MBA vision, built so the goals hold up under questioning. Communication That Connects™ is the storytelling and communication skill clients use in essays, interviews, recruiting, and the job after that. Clients write their own essays.

What she writes about here

Angela writes MBA Protocol’s primary content: career and life guidance, storytelling and school insights, deep career research across MBA programs, and buying guides, including comparisons with other firms. She hosts a weekly video series on YouTube: MBA Mondays, and is generally recognized as someone who shoots straight.
