HEC Paris · At a glance
Alumni-led, presentation-driven
A long Zoom conversation with an alum who has read your file: you present a topic you chose, defend it under follow-up questions, then explain why HEC and where you are headed.
Who interviews you
HEC Paris alumni conducted every interview our clients reported. You will have two separate interviews, each with a different alum, and the school weights them equally.
Where
Every HEC interview our clients have reported was virtual on Zoom, from 2020 through 2024.
Interview style
Case / presentation
Each interview opens with a 10-minute presentation on a topic you choose, followed by content questions, then direct fit and career questions with a light behavioral element.
Blind or application read?
Application read (interviewer has the full application). Interviewers have read the full application and referred to the essays. That matches the school's stated practice.
Scheduling
In a recent season, the school shared the names and contact details of the assigned alumni once the applicant was invited, and the applicant emailed them directly to set a time. Earlier reports did not describe how scheduling worked.
HEC Paris · What clients report
Inside the interview
What our clients say happens
Clients describe a long, multi-part interview: a presentation prepared in advance, probing questions on its content, then a mix of direct and behavioral questions. Clients found it long and demanding, and it doubles as a fit interview. Interviewers had clearly read the application, and some engaged deeply with the client's essays and career plans; some offered career advice. Presentation follow-ups can be substantive, such as what you would do in a given executive role or how you would apply your expertise in a new setting. Questions about other schools, GMAT score, employment gaps and timing are asked plainly. Some interviewers also asked whether you speak French.
The interviewer said they had read the full application and seemed to know the essays well, which made the conversation feel personal.
