14 of 15 reports were with alumni (applicants are assigned two alums and interview with each separately; several reports are one of a pair). The remaining report describes the Kira Talent recorded video interview submitted right after the application.

Where

Before 2020, interviews were in person, off campus. Since 2020 most have been on Zoom, though some interviews were in person, and the most recent reports were back in person, off campus. Alums are matched to the applicant's region.

How long

Typically 45 to 60 minutes per alum, sometimes longer.

Interview style

Conversational resume walk- through

Most reports center on the applicant's story, goals, and why INSEAD, with a few probing questions and lots of back-and-forth; formal behavioral prompts appear in only a handful of reports and the Kira video is the only scripted element.

Blind or application read?

Mixed. One alum had clearly read the full application: they 'read every single word' and pointed to specific details in it. Most other reports describe a resume-driven or free-form conversation with no mention of essays, and one alum said they received no formal questions from the school, so depth of preparation depends on the individual alum.

Scheduling

Invitation arrives by email, followed within a day by the names and contact details of two alumni in your region. You contact each alum yourself to arrange separate interviews, by email or phone; the school suggests calling or texting if email goes unanswered, and will reassign an alum who is unavailable. The Kira video interview is a separate requirement due within 48 hours of the application deadline.

INSEAD · What clients report

Inside the interview

The feel of the room

INSEAD alumni interviews are overwhelmingly described as friendly, warm, and conversational, often feeling like a chat with a senior colleague rather than an evaluation. Several alums openly said they had no script from the school, and some treated it as a light check rather than a test. The structure is loose: resume, why INSEAD, goals, and then wherever the conversation goes, with travel and cultural experience coming up often. A few interviewers were more direct or stern, probing the logic behind goals, decisions, and the INSEAD network, but even those reports describe the interviewer as warm or supportive.

What our clients say happens

Clients consistently describe a relaxed, personal conversation that often runs the full hour or longer, with the alum sharing their own INSEAD experience and leaving generous time for the applicant's questions. Most interviews open with a resume walk or self-introduction and why INSEAD, then move to goals and how INSEAD fits them, sometimes with pointed follow-ups on why those goals and what job comes next. Questions about cultures, languages, travel, and how you handle a multicultural, intense environment appear in roughly half the reports and are a distinctive INSEAD thread. A minority of alums push harder, asking you to defend your rationale or digging into how you measured results, and some asked about other schools and whether INSEAD was really the first choice. Several alums give candid feedback or advice during the interview itself. Preparation by the interviewer ranges from none to having read every word of the application.
