UCLA Anderson · At a glance
Quick, friendly, fit-focused
A 30-minute chat with a current student that moves fast: resume, why MBA, why Anderson, goals and plan B, then exactly where you will show up on campus.
Who interviews you
Every report in our data was with a current student assigned by the school; no alumni or adcom interviews appear. Some applicants felt they were paired with someone from a similar background.
Where
Four interviews, from 2018 to 2020, were on campus in the Los Angeles admissions office. Every report since then has been virtual, first on Skype and then Zoom (13 of 17 overall).
How long
Interviews run about 30 minutes, kept to time.
Interview style
Conversational resume walk- through
Nearly every report opens with a resume walk or tell-me-about-yourself, then moves to why MBA, why Anderson, goals and fit; behavioral prompts are few and short, and one applicant described it as 'mostly conversation with a few behavioral-type questions sprinkled in.'
Blind or application read?
Blind (resume only). Reports describe interviewers working from the resume and from what the applicant says; some had only skimmed the resume. No report mentions essays or other application materials being referenced.
Scheduling
Invitation arrives by email or as a portal update, and you select a date and time in the portal; the interviewer is a second-year student assigned by the school. The name is usually not shared in advance, though one applicant found it visible once inside the Zoom link, and occasionally applicants know in advance.
UCLA Anderson · What clients report
Inside the interview
The feel of the room
Sixteen of 17 reports describe the Anderson interview as friendly, casual and conversational, with student interviewers who are relaxed, warm and sometimes willing to chat about shared background or offer their email afterward. Some interviewers press hard on whether your goals are realistic. Even when friendly, the interview is a compact run through a set list: resume, why MBA, why Anderson, goals, plan B, contribution, and one or two short behavioral prompts, and several applicants noted the questions came back to back with little breathing room.
What our clients say happens
Clients describe a short, pleasant conversation that covers a lot of ground quickly: typically 20 to 25 minutes of questions and 5 to 10 minutes for the applicant's own questions inside a 30-minute slot, and interviewers keep to time because the next applicant is waiting. Follow-ups tend to spring from what the applicant just said rather than from a prepared probe, though some interviewers push hard on how realistic your goals are. Several applicants noticed the interviewer was taking detailed notes, which can make the conversation feel less interactive. Interviewers generally seemed prepared and positive, and technical glitches happen. The recurring thread is fit: interviewers want to hear specific clubs, activities and resources, and one applicant said most answers were being steered back to 'why UCLA.'

Nearly every answer was probed for 'Why UCLA', so know the program inside out (values, professors, clubs) and be ready to say why it specifically fits you.
They really wanted to know why you like Anderson and went in depth on what you would do there: specific clubs, activities and events.
