An upbeat chat with an admissions officer who builds questions from your resume story, then asks why Marshall and what kind of leader you are.
Who interviews you
Admissions committee members ran every Marshall interview our clients reported. No client was interviewed by a student or an alum.
Where
Earlier interviews were in person, on campus in Los Angeles or in a hub city. Since 2021, clients have interviewed on Zoom.
Interview style
Resume-led conversation
Interviews open with a resume walk-through and follow-ups on career moves, then why Marshall, plus a question or two about leadership style, team conflict or your proudest accomplishment.
Blind or application read?
Mixed. Reports differ: some interviews were billed as blind, others drew on the application. Treat everything you submitted as fair game and stay consistent with it.
Scheduling
Invitations come from admissions by email. Follow the scheduling instructions in yours, and plan for a 30 to 40 minute slot that can end early.
USC Marshall · What clients report
Inside the interview
What our clients say happens
Clients report an upbeat back-and-forth where the adcom interviewer asks follow-ups stemming from the resume story, such as how a transition between roles came about. Why Marshall is asked every time, and one client was asked specifically how they had engaged with the school. Leadership questions are common and sometimes framed in threes: three leadership traits you have, or the three greatest qualities of a strong leader. A challenge or conflict story came up in most interviews. Interviews can run shorter than advertised: some end well before the scheduled 30 to 40 minutes. Most clients had time at the end for their own questions.
Friendly and approachable, very conversational.
