Dartmouth Tuck · At a glance
Warm, student-led, behavioral
A friendly second-year student walks your resume, asks why MBA and why Tuck, then runs story questions on feedback, conflict and helping others.
Who interviews you
Second-year students conduct essentially every Tuck interview, many of them with the title Tuck Admissions Associate. Adcom interviews are rare.
Where
On campus in Hanover through the 2019/20 cycle, with occasional on-campus interviews since. Virtual on Zoom is the default since the 2020/21 cycle (86% of reports since then).
How long
Number of interviews by length, from the 20 MBA Protocol clients who reported one.
Interview style
Hybrid behavioral + conversational
Nearly every interview opens with a resume walk-through and the why MBA / why Tuck / goals trio, then moves into tell-me-about-a-time questions (feedback, conflict, accomplishment, failure) that several interviewers explicitly tie to Tuck's four admissions criteria. The delivery is conversational, but the question set is clearly scripted.
Blind or application read?
Blind (resume only). One report states explicitly that the interview was blind with only the resume as reference; others say the interviewer came in having read the resume and asked about specific resume bullets. No report mentions an interviewer referencing essays or other application content.
Scheduling
Invitations come by email, recently about two weeks after submission, and Tuck guarantees an interview to applicants who complete their application by set dates in Rounds 1 and 2; other interviews are by invitation, so check the current cycle's policy. You self-schedule in a portal with a limited rolling window. Since 2022 the interviewer's name and Zoom link arrive only two hours before the call.
Dartmouth Tuck · What clients report
Inside the interview
The feel of the room
Overwhelmingly friendly and warm. Clients describe it as a conversation with a second-year student who genuinely wants to get to know them, and several say it felt like talking with a friend or a colleague. Underneath the warmth there is a clear structure: most interviewers walk through the resume, cover why MBA, why Tuck and goals, then run a set of behavioral questions, often prefaced with an explanation of the format. A handful of interviewers were stiffer or more stoic (3 or 4 reports).
What our clients say happens
Clients describe a warm, low-pressure conversation in which the interviewer explains the format up front, takes notes throughout and works from a fairly predictable list of questions. Follow-ups are usually light, though a few interviewers dug into exactly what the client said or did. Most left 10 to 20 minutes for the applicant's questions, and several interviews ran long because the student enjoyed talking about Tuck. A few clients met a stiffer interviewer, and one got time for only a single question at the end.
